I have corrected my earlier post which contained an error; the Game turn consists of two player phases, so a commander that becomes attached in his own phase remains attached during the other player’s phase (and possibly longer if engaged in combat). |

Ramses II a écrit: | This is not that complicated, the key lies in the last sentence of Attaching a commander to a unit:-
Citation: | "When a commander is attached to a unit, he stays attached to it until the end of the game-turn or until the end of the melee if it is engaged in combat." |
Basically, when using a commander to move a unit or group, he becomes temporarily attached for the duration of that game turn, so he may be affected by combat or other enemy actions as Tim and Lionelrus have said Â
Note:- The quoted sentence does suggest that if a commander uses his own CP to move the unit into melee (not support), then he automatically becomes engaged in the melee . . . |
Except that the second bullet point of Attached commander reads:
Citation: | A commander can engage in combat but only if the player chooses to and says so to his opponent. Once engaged in combat the commander remains so until one of the units is Routed, which can take several game-turns.
|
So he cannot automatically become engaged in the melee, it requires a positive decision by the player.
Incidentally, this also makes it clear that if the commander is not engaged in the melee he may leave the unit at will.

Yes Dave. To say differently, a general attached with a unit figthing in melee remain attached, but he can leave the unit when he wants do so, during his own turn of course. _________________ "Quand on a pas de technique, faut y aller à la zob"

As is a holly purpose to give civilisation to barbarians, specialy to whom allways win against us in 6 nations, i give you the french sentence.
El Kreator says: "une fois qu'un général est attaché à une unité il le reste jusqu'à la fin du tour ou de la mêlée s'il s'engage en mêlée.
What a poetry, isn't it? _________________ "Quand on a pas de technique, faut y aller à la zob"

Which google helpfully translates as:
“once a general is attached to a unit, he remains so until the end of the turn or the melee if he engages in meleeâ€
Treating a turn as always ending after the defender’s phase seems quite harsh (or at least unfair) to the defender. A defending general who is forced by a move or melee result during the the attacker’s to attach to a nearby unit, will be stuck there through the defender’s phase, unable to leave or join another unit. But an attacker’s general who was forced to join a unit prior to his phase is freed up by the start of a new turn to do whatever he wants during the attacker’s movement phase. Was this really intended or does the rule really intend they be attached during the “phase†rather than “turn |

Edit:-
That's a fair point, but the rules don't say the commander becomes attached to the unit he flees to. This is relevant because the nearest unit might not be part of his Corps and so he would not be able to attach to it. _________________ Putting the ink into incompetence |
