Was flipping through the unit costs and their combat values and noticed something curious. Medium Knights and Heavy Chariots cost the exact same, however Heavy Chariots have a worse combat value against Knights. Is there some other advantage they get to compensate for this? Why would they make them worse in combat but not adjust the points?

Let's say make heavy chariots 9 points
Now compare the Hch with Heavy Cavalry also 9 points.
Are they close in performance?
Going the other way make medium Knight 11 points
Now compare mKn with Cataphracts also 11 points
Are they close in performance.?
Look at these then we can discuss further if one or the other or neither change on a 9-10-11 jump in points.
You point is valid but is a change of 1 point too much? _________________ Player 747 don't call me Jumbo |

Practically it doesn't matter overly much if you are doing reasonably historical match-ups. |

I guess the real takeaway here is that regular Knights are a value and should usually be taken. You make great points, what if I was to propose that medium Knights, heavy Knights, and cataphracts should all go up one point? They do seem to be some of the best troop types right now.
@ethan: are you the Ethan who won with Assyrians at Historicon? Please teach me your ways! Trying to build a viable list right now but struggling.

Heavy chariots and Knights are not of the same period...
When playing against historical adversaries, the role is nearly identical (contact the ennemy and trample him) but their opponents will not be the same:
Chariot will face ligt chariot (Cv) maybe with bow; MI or LMI; and maybe one or two HI. More HI as you come in the more recent era. Against these, they will perform very well (with the armor and impact) and the cost is adapted to these opponents.
Knights will face HI (with 2HW or Spear), Bowyer with Arbalete or Longbow, Artillery, and the usual hordes of paysants. The knights are also adapted in budget to match these opponents.
Fighting Knights /Chariots will be anhistorical and certainly in the favor of the warriors mounted on horse: better manoeuvaribily so the +1 in combat. _________________ Audentes fortuna iuvat. |

I am one and the same. Middle Assyrians have a nice mix of HCh,LCh and very powerful MI (or you can go earlier with a Strategist and all LCh - which is not a terrible list either and possibly is playable in an open period competition). |

Thanks for the advice! I just bought some figures to paint up for MI, I completely overlooked their awesomeness the first go around, but I now see the folly of my ways. Do you mind sharing the list you used for Historicon?

So, Adg is'nt a historical game but a tactical one. No game can simulate battles.
The real problem is the period.
To change budget of HCh need to change other troup budget. _________________ Hasta la victoria Siempre!
