Hi Guys,
Hopefully a simple question.
Two light infantry are in melee in the open.
A heavy knight is behind one of their flanks and moves into melee support.
We both initially thought that the LI was destroyed on contact; however, we could not find a rule stating this.
We played that the LI took a hit and the melee was carried out as normal (where the flanked LI died as expected).
Was this correct?

P.62 deals with the “auto destruction†of LI.
If LI would be the “main unit†in a melee against specified heavier troop types, no melee is fought - the LI are “auto-killedâ€.
In your scenario LI is the main unit in a melee against another LI main unit. So p62 is irrelevant.
Of course a knight moving into melee support for LI X against LI Z will cause a cohesion hit on LI Z (as you played it) and bring significant additional factors to the melee which may make the outcome almost as certain as an “auto kill†(subject to dice). |

I knew I should have checked the errata:
Destruction of light infantry (page 62)
1st bullet correction: Light Infantry are not Routed if they are in melee with a WWg.
Note: An LI is also routed if it’s flank contacted by a heavy unit in a melee support position, if this flank or rear contacted is in clear terrain (even partially).
So the LI should have been destroyed without a melee.
