Hi all,

I've been working my way through the rules for the past months and with a few games under my belt I've been finding more niche situations. The other day something came up that I couldn't satisfactorily resolve just with the rulebook and errata, and I haven't been able to find an answer here in the forum either. I'm using the Spanish version of the rules, in case it's relevant.

When a hill has vegetation added to it, it "inherits" the cover and (for gentle hills) terrain type of said vegetation, so that a, say, gentle hill with woods is difficult terrain and provides cover. And we know that hills, whether they are covered in vegetation, allow for ambush beyond the crest/horizon line.

My question is this: can you also deploy ambushes as per the vegetation cover, without them being beyond the crest/horizon line? Can, for instance, LI be placed in ambush on a hill with fields, not beyond the crest or horizon line, but within view of the enemy deployment area, as they could be placed in a regular piece of field (assuming the other requirements - ambush deployment area, etc. - are met)? In other words, can units be deployed in ambush on the slope of a hill, facing the enemy, if that hill has vegetation cover that would otherwise allow them to deploy in ambush?

As Lionel said, yes.

an additional point. El Kreator was brilliant in that the different translations of the rule book act as a Rosetta stone. So my English page 77, left column under placing ambushes, 3rd bullet addresses your point. I believe it will be the same in your Spanish rules.

This is brilliant as it makes international communication, playing and umpiring very easy because players can point to a common location. In Rome when I umpired the Worlds, I could point to a location in my English rules and the Italian and Spanish players could see the same sentence and understand the ruling. It also facilitates answers in forums like this.
