Some cavalry can dismount, if the mounted and foot units are listed on the same row (Page 21)..
Visigoth (93) and Vandals (94) are an example.
..but what is the exact definition of row.
The same colour? Or the same box
Are Mounted foederati /foederati on foot on the same row?

| No, I don’t think they can. They are in a different box. See the HYWar French (list p 229, list 237) “Nobles and Men at Arms†line for example of ones in the same box that can dismount. |

I am behind the curve on this. Is there a new rule that says that if foot and horse are in the same box they can dismount without being knights or needing forts, elephants, etc to trigger them?
The two examples quoted here (Visigoths and Vandals) have a note describing what these horsemen dismount as. Is that coincidence or one of the requirements for this dismount without the familiar triggers?

Thank you. Umpteen years and I'd never spotted that.
I don't remember ever encountering cav doing this. Is it in practice limited to a few lists?

Thank you. This is interesting. "Row" in this context is similar in meaning to line. If the rule on p 21 is taken to refer to the troop description then it would not apply to any troops, as there is never room on one line for foot and horse. So at first reading I would assume that the "row" is the row in which unit numbers allowed are listed - 0 to 8 in the case of the Carolingian Swarbians, etc. Which would also apply to Patrician foederati.
Am I right in guessing that in the French edition the word the English edition has as "row" is more like box or space?
