Hey There ,is there a way to see the actual composition of each army listed in all the tournaments ? I just think it would be good information to see what troops people favor in their armies as well as how they are forming their corps . Thanks

Thanks guys Very Happy sorry for the late reply I was out of town for a bit . I was hoping . That some of the European players could share some of their experience with list building / corps building and synergy . I have very little tabletop time myself but it seems at first glance that most do not build combined arms corps . Is their a reason for this ? Thanks again

I think it's because we aren't really very good, and haven't yet worked out that combined arms commands are really viable, especially with good quality generals

Sorry for my english. I will give you to example, one of mixte army and one combined army.

In France, a lot of players compose mixted corps with infantery and cavalery.

A good example is this classical army list for Communal italian (181) played several time by Jean Levrero in tournament :

List 181 Communal Italian +2 init, 22 unit

Competent general
2 Kn medium impact elite
2 heavy lancer
1 Mixted heavy lancer/crossbowmen
1 LH X-bow
1 LI bow

Competent general
2 Kn medium impact elite
2 heavy lancer
1 Mixted heavy lancer/crossbowmen
1 LH X-bow
1 LI bow

Competent general
2 Kn medium impact elite
2 HI 2HW
2 Medium lancer
1 LI X-bow

This army list is designed for having 2 Kn impact elite in each corps. You can concentrate four Kn easily to cruch an ennemy line. All the corps are also designed for fighting alone against most usual ennemy corps but they must be deployed in concentrated way for keeping a KN reserve and flanking opportunity. Usualy, you advance slowly with your HI line and concentrate your Kn for delivering the crushing blow. The 3rd corps can protect the flank in terrain.

This list is a solid one, for cautious and clever player who feel better in calculating all odds

Another amy list very synergical is this one I'm used to play :

List 193 Ghaznevid, +2 init 20 units

Competent general included
5 HC bow elite
1 LH bow

Brillant general
3 ELephant elite
2 MI impact elite
2 LI jav
2 LI bow
1 LI Firearm

Ordinary included, non reliant
1 HC bow elite
2 HC bow
1 LH bow

The synergy in this case is in the way I use the corps.

The elephant corps is clearly the crushing corps. Usualy I deploy it on a wing were I expect Hi or Mi (not pike), maybe in front of opponent camp. This corps need a brillant general for being able to manoever but it is more simple tu go straith away.

The big cavalery corps is use in direct support for protecting the elephant against other horse bowmen (preventing dodge for example), or against infantery by puting some ZOC on them. This corps inflict the first loss early game but this is the elephant charge that will give enough loss to break opponent army.

The last corps is the delay corps. It isn't devised for real figthing, just for delaying action and finaly flank protection.

The combination HC bow elite/Elephant elite is really synergical. The elephant give to an horse archer army the crushing power HC bow lack. it's an very offensive army with witch you want to seize the throat of your opponent and finish him quickly.

@ Pyrrhus :
You'll find, in french language (sorry...), but easily translated, many lists exemples, in the "listes d'armées" forum part, for each of the 6 periods of the ruleset.

Just a note to say that the "heavy lancers" must be Heavy Spear, likewise for the mediums. Lancer being a translator's false friend.

It's an intriguing list, I would never have thought of building a list with all three corps containing a mix of HI and Kn. Hmmm

Sorry for my bad english Smile

This list is a classical one in french tournament. A lot of player used to play polyvalent list. i think it's a good idea for cofuse opponent but it's more difficulT to concentrate knigths on one target.

Some players prefer to play 2 small knight corps and a big infantry corp with this army list.

This kind of Battle group list is the first thing that came to mind when I started reading Batreps from ADLG. it seemed that the most common thing was to build all mounted and all infantry groups . That makes a lot of sense for some armies but for others not so much . I was thinking that in the open tournaments where some of the weakness of earlier armies mounted arm would be exposed if that just charged knights strait on with something inferior .Building Kampfgruppe's makes sense to potentially utilize specialist troops as well as some that are weaker in head up infantry clashes ( like ordinary hvy spearmen) but they are good fighting mounted .
