Darryl Pearce is trying to gauge the interest in an 15mm ADGL competition at campaign next year.

Campaign is held in Milton Keynes over the weekend of the 6 and 7th May. For those that haven't played at previous Campaigns here is a quick overview of the format.

It will be teams of 3, one in the biblical period one classical and one dark age/medieval. The final periods will be finalised later but they are usually in the form of "The Campaigns of...", so a fairly small range of allowed historically matched armies.

The teams are formed into leagues and over the course of the weekend you play all of the other teams in the league.

In order to get the go ahead to run ADGL they need to be confident of getting 18 people. Neil who is the overall Campaign organiser has a level of concern that as he already offers FOG and DBMM that he will just end up with 3 incomplete leagues if he adds ADGL. So Darryl is trying to get a feel on the level of interest.

If we get 18 players it will be a league of 6 teams playing 300 point armies 3 games Saturday 2 Sunday. If we reach 24 players then it will 200 points 4 games Saturday 3 on the Sunday.

So if you are interested please post to the Yahoo Group -https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/UKADLG they can take either teams or individuals and make them into teams of 3.

Darryls current aim is to finalise this over the Warfare weekend so if you are interested let him know before then. If you dont have access to Yahoo, ping me an email or a pm and I'll pass it on.

This would be a great event to add to the ADLG calendar, and would also be a bit of a beacon to clubs in that area that ADLG is on the up...

I don't suppose someone could post the allowable army lists for each period?

Here goes

1) Strategist

2 Elite LCh Bw
1 Ord LCh Bw
6 MSwd Impet
2 LI Bw

2) Brilliant

2 Elite LCh Bw
2 Ord LCh Bw
3 MSwd Impact
1 MSwd 2HW
2 Bwmn
1 LI Sling

3) Ord Inc & Unreliable

1 Ord LCh Bw [initially Elite, until Ian pointed out I was only allowed 4 Embarassed ]
1 LC Bw Mediocre
1 LI Sling

All round a tough army in the restricted period. The chariots should have been the decisive arm, but as everyone had them they didn't shine as I thought they should. It did best where the infantry were able to get hold of the opponent and shake them around a bit.

Game 1 against Gareth's Libyan multitude (30 units). Better quality foot and more chariots told in the end. Win.

Game 2 - Nik's Myceneans, minimum HSp and lots of HCh and tricky terrain. A very cagey game dodging around field and plantations, could have gone either way in time. Draw

Game 3 - Ian's NKEs. Ian had mostly Impact foot and similar LCh. Slightly offset deployment meant Ian couldn't bring his chariots to bear early enough. Win

Game 4 - Clive's Mycenean. Fewer Chariots and including Myrmidons. Less terrain meant more shooting from chariots and scope for chariots to get behind flanks. Very bloody infantry combats. Win

Game 5 - Mike's Phillistines. I was winning the clash of impetuous foot, but where my chariots and steady foot faced his chariots and HSwd they disappeared in a puff of smoke. Corps III could have given me a win, but chose not to play until it was too late. Lost

Game 6 - Gavin's NKE. Gavin had more Bowmen and more Impact MSwd. Again an offset deployment. My chariots kept his at bay whilst nibbling the end of his infantry line. My own infantry used their greater numbers to overwhelm and sneak into his camp. Win

The Army

On the whole I liked the army. The Command and Control of a Strategist and Brilliant general contributed a lot to my successes. The Unreliable rolled 1 in three games (!), but only cost me one game. On reflection, the extra 3 pts weren't worth it.

The Competition

In all my games my losses were all high teens / low twenties (except where I lost Smile ). In part this suggests to me that the theme was well balanced with no walkovers. Also, because the games were only 2h15m we had to really push for a result so there was less time to maneouvre for the perfect position and more willingness to take chances. Made for fast bloody and fun games.

My opponents were also good fun to play against and it's good to see some of the guys from days of yore taking up ADLG.

My NKE list was as follows:-

I Corps - Commander; Brilliant, Unreliable
4x light chariots (2 elite)
2x bowmen
2x Medium Swordsmen Impact
2x light infantry bow

II Corps - Commander; Strategist
1x Medium Infantry 2HW
2x Medium Swordsmen Impact
2x bowmen
2x light infantry bow
2x Medium Swordsmen Impetuous
2x light infantry javelin

III Corps - Commander; Ordinary, included
4x light chariots (2 elite)
1x light cavalry bow, mediocre

My tournament record is less illustrious than Dave's, 2x losses and 4x draws due to time constraints (I found 2.25 hours per game rather 'challenging').

In hindsight I think I had too many LI, and would change the list to replace the two LI javelin with another MI (impact or 2HW), as I found my infantry line was not quite strong enough.

The intended deployment was to place the I Corps in the middle with the camp slightly offset to lie behind the Strategist, with the intention to force the enemy to activate it if it became 'hesitant'. The III Corps was intended to act independently on the other flank, possibly as a Flank March or in Ambush if appropriate.
