We seem to be in 'violent agreement' over most aspects here. LoL Very Happy
  • A unit that Rallies may subsequently be displaced by the conformation of another unit, but not the reverse.
  • the timing of when units conform - Players move and conform units during the Movement phase
  • Conformation is a "game mechanic"
  • Rallying may or may not require CP.
Though, CP must be expended if the unit is near an enemy unit (otherwise it would not be displaced by a conforming friend)
Where we seem to disagree is that Conformation is an "official" movement, which IMO are those unit movements available to the player eg. advance, turn, wheel, slide etc defined earlier in the rules. We both agree that Conformation may be mandatory after moving into contact or potentially optional when in contact, but this positional adjustment is dictated by the rules rather than at the direction of the player.

I think you misunderstood my distinction between the timing of when Conformation takes place and the technical effect implied.
As the player moves each unit, technically, that particular unit can be thought of as being at the end of the Movement Phase even though other units have yet to be moved. The point is that the player may not choose to move that unit again, although the rules may dictate that such a unit be repositioned to allow for the conformation of a friend.

In this 'technical' sense, irrespective of when the unit conforms (following a melee, or on contacting the enemy), the unit has ended its part in the Movement phase. And any unit displaced by Conformation is likewise at the end of its movement, so may not subsequently move - this is the reasoning behind the official amendment to p53.

The question raised is around the interaction between Rallying and Conformation. Essentially can a unit that is Rallying also be displaced, or put another way, does Rallying prevent the unit being displaced.
Are you suggesting that umpires have ruled something different than the first bullet above?
(If not, then what are we discussing??)
Very Happy

Ok guys, I have heard back from the TB on this subject.

Given that the rules do not impose an order sequence on players,
  • A unit move move or Rally before being displaced by the conformation of another friendly unit.
  • However, units may not move or Rally after they have been displaced by the conformation of a friendly unit.

As outlined above, conformation signals the end of the movement for the specific units, including those that have been displaced, but does not prevent the player from moving or rallying units beforehand.

A most reasonable resolution.

Thank you and thanks to the TB
