After the Romans were soundly beaten by the Sassanids, it was up to Palmyra to save the eastern empire.
After a 5 year long war, Palmyra was victorious in reclaiming all the lost lands to Persia, then took on the role of Governor of the East. After that,
that Queen Zenobia took control of all the near east, from Alexandria to Ankara. Ostensibly to protect it from the maundering Persians and Armenians.
But the new Emperor of Rome was not fooled. He just needed to put down the other invasions closer to home first, before crossing the Bosporus and marching to Syria.
It's Aurelian vs Zenobia near the town of Emesa.
