Hi all

Can't find this one answered anywhere, but it arose today in a game. My cavalry was placed on a road just forward of a village. The road behind them was straight for about 3MU's back into the village, than curved round (inside the village) towards the centre of the table through 90 deg, continuing into open terrain again.

If the cavalry had been forced to evade straight backwards would they:

Evade at road speed (+/- modifiers)?

Stop at the bend in the village, as difficult going is not an obstacle under the rules and they would thereby run out of movement to enter it off road?

or follow the road round the bend (up to 90 deg) thus maximising their move?


If the same road with a bend had not been in slowing terrain, would evading cavalry stay on it to avoid being slowed by leaving it?

ps the cavalry thought it all looked a bit complicated and went off on a foray behind enemy lines instead, as it seemed like more fun at the time...

Tow different rules:

1. To get the road bonus a unit’s entire move must be aling thr road

2. After any initial turn or wherl to align with the charger’s angle of attack, an evade move is in a straight line unless the evader meets an obstacle when some additional rules apply p.39 para numbers #5 and #6.
