We think we got this right, but would appreciate confirmation -
= Enemy Medium foot facing down
= Friendly Medium Foot facing up
= Friendly Bowmen facing up
It is Friendly's turn. He wants to charge his Medium Foot and Bowmen as a group into Enemy's medium foot. They are more than 1 UD apart, so it requires CPs to be spent.
a) Friendly's troops charge as a group for 1 CP as the Bowmen will end up in a supporting position and so comply with the Restrictions on Contact rule
b) The Bowmen can't make contact as the Enemy medium foot isn't yet in combat, so it requires 2 CPs, 1 for Friendly's medium foot to charge and then 1 CP for the Bowmen to then move up into a Support position.
We went with b) |

From the latest FAQ P13
Citation: | Contact restrictions for bowmen
Q : There is a group of 2 bowmen with an elephant in between. Facing them, 2 enemy HI. How can the elephant and bowmen charge the enemy HI units ?
A : You have to declare 2 charges :
1- The elephant charges a HI, with a bowmen in support.
2- Next, the 2nd bowmen charges the 2nd HI (see p52 contact restrictions)
Note : If the units are 1UD or less from the enemy, the charges can be spontaneous and therefore free. |
So here the answer is a), you only needed to pay 1 CP. |
