Heavy swordsmen are in full edge to edge contact behind a friendly crossbow unit and want to charge through them to chase off a Light Foot unit.
Light foot evades, Heavy swordsmen throw down in their variable move.
Do the heavy swordsmen take the place of the crossbowmen, i.e. move 1 UD forward and the crossbows are displaced to the rear of the heavies, or is there no movement allowed because they can't get even partly in front of the crossbows? |

Really Good question.
I would say that the HI may not move, because their 1UD movement does not pass their front edge beyond the unit ahead (crossbow in this case), as required in the rules on Adjusting positions under Interpenetration (p43).
I will check with the TB. |

There is nothing wrong with what Ramses II wrote.
I've followed the same reading of the rules as quoted _________________ Player 747 don't call me Jumbo |

Can they "choose" to move only 1 UD, thus staying behind the crossbow unit (allowing it to shoot)? |

I'm not disagreeing with Ramses II, but he said he'd check with the TB, I'm merely asking if they made any comment. |

No.Â
While the HI can normally choose to halt after 1UD, any unit that interpenetrates a friend must attempt to clear the far side of that unit. So here they would have to move 2UD
(Read carefully the 1st sentence of Adjusting positions p43)Â |
