Hi All

We have always played that only javelin men get the javelin rule, i have read a coulple of reports that seemed to indicate anyone with a javelin got the rule.

Which is correct please, same for LI XBow whilst i am on it.

Anyone armed specifically armed with a javelin gets the +1 in the 1st round of melee. This is given for troops throwing their weapons as melee is joined. 

You will also find a curious weapon called an atlatl, a thin throwing spear used by the indigenous South American races. This is a long range weapon launched by a throwing stick, so it does not get the last minute melee bonus. 

If you check the green box on p48 that describes bow and crossbow shooting, you will find that the bonuses do not apply to light troops armed with them.

Loving the game and starting to get the grip on rules, still get slaughterdd but at least drag it out a bit now.

Javelin Bonus is cancelled if the opponent has either 'impact' or 'impetuous' ability. page 18

Light Infantry with Javelin in ROUGH going is charged by Heavy Swordsmen 'impact' and therefore the Heavy Swordsmen take a -1 Terrain modifier. page 57

Does the Heavy Swordsman lose the 'impact' +1 allowing the Light Infantry to gain the +1 for Javelin ?

What happens if the Heavy Swordsmen charge the Javelin armed Light Infantry in DIFFICULT terrain where it takes a -2 Terrain modifier ?

Infantry do not lose their impact in disadvantaging terrain, so:

in rough: HI (+1 base +1 impact -1 terrain = +1) vs LI (+0)

in difficult HI (+1 base +1 impact -2 terrain = +0) vs LI (+0)

If the HI was not impact this will have been +0/+1 and -1/+1 respectively so a differential of 2 in favor of the Li
