Ramses II a écrit: | The wording you quote should be sufficient.Â
Â
In effect by moving forward, the unit has gone past melee into pursuit. (Remember the unit can only pursue at the end of its own move). So it is neither “after a rout†nor “after a disengageâ€.
But, if we consider the diagram above where unit A remains stationary in flank contact with Z, in the movement phase of the following turn it MAY turn for free because this IS Conforming after a melee (the other unit that was in front of it was destroyed).Â
Does that help? |
Wait what? Under Pursuit it clearly says "it can perform an advance at the end of the melee phase to pursue a routed unit." That would imply that the Pursuit happens not in the move phase as you have suggested, but at the end of the melee phase as it is written.
But now that I read the rules, that doesn't make sense either. The Routing of a unit clearly states it happens at the end of the phasing players turn, then the Conformation After a Melee rules state they happen after a rout or disengage. Intuitively, the order seems like it should be:
Rout > Pursuit > Conform |

See page 13 of the FAQ for definitive statement on timing of conformation.Â

So after checking the FAQ “conforming after a melee†on pg55 is intended to apply to the next players movement phase? Am I understanding that correctly? An example:
AA
X
It’s X’s turn and he defeats the A immediately to his front. His options after the unit is removed in the routing phase are to stay put, or pursue forward one UD correct? He cannot “conform after a melee†and slide over to face the other A is what I’m gleaming from the FAQ.
 A
X
If he stays put and does not pursue then it looks like this, and on player A’s turn he is then allowed to “conform after a meleeâ€? I just want to make sure we’re doing this correctly.Â
If this is all correct then my follow up question would be, what’s the point of even having the “conform after a melee†section and why is it worded so ambiguously to lead the reader on to think he can immediately conform? |

More or less. Though it's a bit more complicated than that.Â
X can pursue only if A was routed in X's turn. If X is impetuous that pursuit is compulsory. Which can have somewhat embarrassing consequences for X.Â
Whichever side goes next can make the conform.Â
I suppose the purpose of the rule is to allow combat to continue between two units already in contact. _________________ Putting the ink into incompetence |

Thanks for the clarifications. I’ll have to inform the playgroup of the error in our ways. |

If X destroys his opponent A in his turn then ...if not impetus he may pursue UP to 1 ud .IF IMPETUS MUST pursue 1 ud.
If X stays put ,then on A turn on movement phase A unit thats corner 2 corner with X may move freeely somewhere else /may conform for free frontally with X. |

If the surviving A unit is impetuous does it have to conform to X in A's turn? |

I’d say yes Impetuous A must conform with X in A’s turn, unless it is held with sufficient pips or is able to charge another nearby target (A’s choice). |

Was it something I said? Â
Looking forward to it, and if you happen to have a spare Monday or Thursday evening in London check out CLWC.Â
