|
In this game situation the other evening we had the following occur.
An elephant is fighting to its front with a unit of friendly MF mixed swd/bow in support.
The MF mixed swd/bow is damaged (with 2 casualties/disorders).
The Elephants opponent manages to rout the elephant and in the subsequent elephant rampage roll, the elephant routs through its supporting MF mixed swd/bow.
That subsequently breaks the MF mixed swd/bow.
So the question is, which way does the MF mixed swd/bow rout?
It is not engaged directly in combat to its front (although it is supporting the elephant). So our thoughts were that it will rout directly away from the cause of its rout, which is to its flank (which meant it routed through another supporting MF mixed swd/bow causing it to receive a disorder.
Where we correct in this approach?
It seemed logical, but the only query in our minds was whether the fact that the MF had been supporting the elephant meant that it should have routed to its rear (away from the unit that had destroyed the elephant and which it was in corner-to-corner contact with).
Many thanks

Hello Mark,
You were not correct in this approach.
Because when you read the 2 bullet of the chapter dedicated to "rout and pursuit", only the units in melee attacked on their flank/rear, are re-orientated to face their opponent, before routing.
It was not the case of your "MF mixed swd/bow", because only "in support" position.
Best regards.

Thank you
I suppose my question was based upon the fact that the MF swd/bow unit was being routed from a flank position aso it was the Elephant that was in-effect 'attacking' the MF swd/bow and causing it to rout.
But I can see the logic that the MF swd/bow should rout to their own rear.
