|
Query came up in our club last night.
X
A B
Unit X faces down, enemy unit A faces up and enemy unit B faces left (there is a small gap between A and B). X charges A and A evades. As X advances it comes into the ZOC of B before it has charged the minimum distance. What happens?
Things I considered were
1. The charge declaration was legal because the charge wouldn't cross en enemy ZOC given the initial positions of X and A (not even having to consider 'most threatening unit rule')
2. The ZOC of B only comes into effect because A evades.
3. As it enters the ZOC of B unit X cannot wheel/turn to attack B as wheels and turns are done at the start of charge.
So I ruled that X had to cease its charge as soon as it entered B's ZOC, even though it hadn't moved the minimum required charge distance. |

That is correct.
See the amendment to the rule page 40 :
"After declaring acharge where the original target evades, if the direction of the charge would enter the ZoC of a new enemy unit without being able to contact it :
. then the charging unit affected by this ZoC must stop before entering it, even if has not completed the minimum distance specified on page 40.
. the other unit(s) of the group that are unaffected by this ZoC continue their charge movement according to the 3rd paragraph of page 40 and the provisions of page 36 "
