|
This came up in one of tonight's games, and opinion was evenly split as to what happens next. The situation was as follows -
Mixed Indian Bow /sword facing down
Mixed Indian Bow /sword facing right
Greek Medium foot facing up
Greek Medium Foot facing left.
In the Indian turn things were like this -
--
--- -------
is in contact with frontally and has in contact on it's left edge.
In the Greek's turn charges on 's left flank, causing a casualty and as it already had 2 casualties, it routs .
The question is whether fights at all in the Greek melee phase, as there is no main melee opponent due to being routed by the flank charge. Rule book and FAQs were consulted so a page reference would be much appreciated. |

This is about the timing of when a auto-destruct melee takes place
When a 2nd (flank) contact causes a unit to evaporate, no dice are rolled to resolve this round of melee but the destroyed unit remains in place until the end of the combat phase (at which point it is removed).
So, the melee still exists between the two primary units until the end of the melee phase. The flank contacts are still supporting the primary melee, its just that their factors don;t count as no dice are rolled. _________________ www.madaxeman.com

Ramses II,
We looked at that, I don't think that that case is quite the same. It talks of the routed unit not fighting - fair enough - and then also not offering support - again fair enough - but the flanking Indian unit is still in melee (2nd bullet point, page 50) with 's flank. So the question was whether is still counting as a support to the routed unit, even though there is no melee, or whether the fact that there is no melee involving the routed unit means that is now a new melee and so a combat involving v now takes place.
The 1st bullet point on page 59 only talks about the unit that is destroyed, not about any other unit that is supporting it. Not trying to be picky here, appreciate the replies and we quite agree with there being no combat etc but I don't think that that example quite fits. |

Your smiling guy doesn't rout until the end of mêlée.
It fights as primary unit.
It just is a no dice auto kill mêlée .
So support units are still support units to the auto kill fight and not starting their own fight.
This makes sense when dead units are only removed at the end of shooting and the end of mêlées as per sequence of play _________________ Player 747 don't call me Jumbo |
