This has probably been asked previously but ...
Can I deploy Fortifications in Ambush?
It's got historical precedents as a tactic - Irish plashing in woods and the AD9 German forest fortifications of Arminius (& I am sure there will be others - probably Chinese examples).
This assumes that the terrain is placed in such a way that Ambush markers can be placed anyway.
If it is allowed - do the fortifications count towards the number of units in the ambush or are they extra (& if they are extra how many can I include in the ambush?)
Many thanks

The basic answer is no. All fortifications are placed on table at the same time as the camp, in the deployment area (p69).
However, you can place ambush markers near / behind the visible fortification provided they comply with their rules on placement (p70). |

Many thanks - I sort of guessed as much - but I thought I'd give it a try |

Sneaky.
BTW, did anyone ever use plashing under WRG?
And was it in any way effective?
As in was anyone ever stupid enough to notice there were a number of points missing from their opponent's army and then decide to have a mooch around in the nearest forest to see what might jump out? _________________ Putting the ink into incompetence |

You know me Dave
If there's an oddity I'll sniff it out ... personally I'd allow it, but I understand that if the rules say they have to be deployed ahead of the ambush markers going down then it's a no no
The thought of LF javs in ambush behind fortifications, in a wood seemed like a nice idea at the time
I have both an Irish and an Ancient German & both use plashing.
I think under WRG you could only use the plashing in a wood - so if you'd bought it and the terrain fell in such a way that your woods were outside the deployment area for the fortifications you couldn't use them. But whether you lost the points I cannot remember
Irregular Miniatures do very nice 15mm and 28mm plashing - if anybody is interested. |
