Can you only expand from groups which are totally in multiple lines?
For example, this fits the definition of a group (facing down screen):

X
X X X X X X
Is this an allowed expansion?
X
X
X X X X X X A
Or should only the elements making the column be classed 'the group', and therefore element A should end up like this (dots are spacers only):
…X
…X
A X X X X X X
I know it's an unusual formation for a group but I've seen it more than a few times! _________________ Korik |

I think it helps to get the toys out and move them while reading.
Second diagram is not allowed by p31 restrictions 4th bullet point
last diagram requires a slow read of 1st paragraph p31
