the rules say you can only provide support to 2 friendly units. What happens if you are in position to support 3 combats, one by rear contact (with a freind in frontal combat with it) and two by flank to flank. Which ones can you support and who chooses.
special cases, bullet 3; "a unit can provide support to a maximum of two friendly units, one on each flank" |

exactly what the rule says. You have to choose supported units. _________________ "Quand on a pas de technique, faut y aller à la zob"

There is no such thing as supporting anyone with your rear edge . Reread p50 with that in mind.
The two limit is for one per flank. _________________ Player 747 don't call me Jumbo |

I think Mike meant a unit is providing support by having its front edge in contact with the flank/rear of an enemy thats already been contacted to its front. The 'supporting unit' is also in a position to provide support to other combat on each of its side edges.
So the questions are
1. Can a unit provide support on either flank if its front edge is already counting as supporting.
2. If the answer to 1 is 'yes' then who does it provide support to? All three combats or just two out of three? |

Are you trying to make
P50 support bullet point one
And
Special cases bullet point three
Mutuallyexclusive?
I feal some over thinking is happening.
Special case 3 is just confirming the obvious that you can support a friend to both flanks at the same time _________________ Player 747 don't call me Jumbo |

Well.....answering my own re-wording of Mikes query
P50 Support
A unit engaged in melee can receive support from other friendly units that are not engaged in melee with another enemy.
P50 Melee, 2nd bullet
A unit is considered in melee.....if it is contact with at least part of its front edge against the flank or rear of an enemy
So a unit in contact with the flank or rear of an enemy with its front edge cannot provide support to any combat except against the unit it is frontal contact with. |

He was talking rear support while another unit contacted enemy with their front.
You are correct unit front contact gives no support to another mêlée.
There is no three support option possible.
It's a red herring. _________________ Player 747 don't call me Jumbo |

Alan
Thanks for the clarification and providing specific rules quotes, that makes it clear and unambiguous. |
