= Hoplite facing up
= Pikes facing down
= Hoplite facing right
__
This came up in last night's game. Hopefully the diagram is readable, we've got photos just in case but struggling to embed them.
The left hand pike is routed in the melee and removed at the end of the phase. The Hoplite unit facing right pursues, bringing it into contact with the side edge of the right hand Pikes.
All happy and agree it isn't a charge etc. The query is this, can the Hoplite facing up, which is in corner to corner contact with the Pike now also conform with the Pike and slide across so they now end up like this
__
We had a committee meeting (6 of us), consulted pg 62, 4th paragraph for the pursuit and pg 55, 1st and 2nd paragraphs and eventually by consensus (Pikes player not entierly convinced) agreed that it could.
Were we correct?
TIA. |

Timing of events is important
1/ the hoplites killed the left pike
2/ at the end of melee phase, the flanking hoplite pursue and contact the second pike on the flank
3/ the remaining hoplite can only conform during its mouvement phase (FAQp13 last bullet)
In that case the only contact will be against .
Then during the pike player phase, the pike freely conform to the hoplite, before the melee phase, fighting as a continuous melee. (P62 pursuit, 5th para)
During the following phase still facing up, and corner to corner with can conform for free , turning 090° right and fighting as an overlap. _________________ "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead"

Right, got you.
So, if I'm reading it right,as an alternative option to the one chosen in the game, if the Hoplite does not pursue, the Hoplite can slide over to line up with Pikes as an alternative, replacing the pursuit with the conformation, leaving the flank of the Pikes open for a flank charge in the Hoplite's next phase? |

Yes but this conformation and this flank attack may only occur on the next hoplite phase, The pike move first and may move away, pivot etc... _________________ "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead"

I'm lead to believe latest FAQ has pike conforming to hoplite pursuit at end of pursuit on contact.
Ie in hoplite turn.
Is that correct? _________________ Player 747 don't call me Jumbo |

That would be meÂ
From memory from the FAQ - a unit contacted by a pursuit conforms immediately (not optional) unless it is already in melee.Â
Often this means the contacted unit can disengage on its own turn as it couldn't evade. Though LI will already have been routed.Â
