Pike A is fighting pike X frontally. Light foot B is in side edge contact with A and in corner-to-corner contact with A and X. B gives A overlap support in the melee:
Y
X
AB
If X's mate, pike Y comes along and charges B in the front can B still evade?
Ie are units providing overlap support locked-in to that melee or can they move freely?
I think I know the answer to this, but others play it differently so I want to check. |

B can and must evade cause it's a LI unit.
An overlapping unit isn't locked by his position. _________________ Hasta la victoria Siempre!

Thanks, both, for your clear and conclusive help. I was fairly sure the light infantryman could get away, but my friend wasn't. I've been wrong about things I was fairly sure of in the past, so wanted to check.
Are there any circumstances in which the light infantryman could not evade (assuming he had a clear path to his rear)? Eg if X killed A and slid across into the front of light infantryman B, cd B still get away? |

Page 55 2nd paragraph, last sentence.
The two circumstances you cannot evade are listed as the last two bullets on page 37.
It's FRONT EDGE NOT COUNTING CORNERS. |
