Tournament Announcement
The veterans of the Varangian Guard, gathered within the new association Armandata, invite you to a new tournament under the radiant (or not) sun of the Basque Country, in Saint Jean de Luz, on February 21st and 22nd, 2026.

Tournament Theme: The Armies of the Atlantic
For this theme, no endless steppes or Mediterranean sunshine: this first tournament will see armies face off that have dipped their toes in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
Tournament Rules:
- Scale: 15 mm, 200-point format.
- To avoid bogging your troops down in the sand, knights, heavy chariots, and cataphracts are not allowed. Armies must be dated 1050 or earlier.

- There is no limit to the number of times a given list may be chosen.
- Allies must come from the lists above.
- The tournament will use Art of War (L’Art de la Guerre) Version 4, including official errata and clarifications available online on the ADG website under “règlesâ€.
Pairings:
- Round 1: based on chronological proximity of lists (except players from the same club).
- Following rounds: Swiss system, avoiding matches between clubmates (except in the final round).
- When revealing their list, players must specify any historical or geographical option and the date of their army.
- Game duration: 2 hours 30 minutes, minimum 7 turns.
- Games end when the referee calls time, at the end of the defender's turn. Blitz if needed to reach 7 turns at 2h15.
- Players must describe their troops during deployment; the models used must resemble the unit types and not mislead the opponent.
- Lists must clearly state the exact historical date of the army (e.g. 400 AD).
- Army lists must be submitted using the Excel form available on the website, under “aides de jeuâ€, and sent to: jeanyvesalacran@orange.fr before February 7th.
- Terrain: Players must bring appropriate terrain pieces. The referee may reject any terrain deemed non-compliant (size, shape) with the “terrain†chapter of the rules.
- Players must use the score sheet and deployment sheet provided by the organisers.
- Players must keep track of turns.
- The rule allowing three die re-rolls (page 84) may be used if both players agree.
- Entry fee is 35 euros, which includes breakfasts, Saturday lunch, Sunday sandwiches, and a small welcome gift. Payment details will be provided later.
