Hello all,
Hopefully someone can help me with some questions on the allies you can take with a classical Armenian army (List #71)
The lists says:
With Tigranes the Great from 89 to 69 BC
Arab nomad allies (List #75 Early Arab)
Atropatene allies (List#102 Parthian)
Q1. Do you have to take Tigranes as a Strategist to use these allies?
Q2. Do the Arab nomad allies have to use the Bedouin tribes sub-list part of List #75?
Q3. If the lists were revised, shouldn't Tigranes other vassals give him options for allies from List #74 Aramean and List 104# Commagene as well?
Thanks. |

For the first one, you dont have to field Tigranes (or any other named Strategist) as a “Strategistâ€, you can field him as any other grade of general and say that he is having a bad day / has got a dickie tummy etc etc
This is as stated in the rules.Â
Would need to check the lists for the second one, and as for the third the answer is “perhaps, but past experience suggests that the lists are only really going to be amended for typos until the next edition comes aroundâ€Â _________________ www.madaxeman.com |

Thanks. I've found the rule now on page 86. Tigranes certainly had some off days.

It says on p87 under allied corps rules that "only units that correspond to the dateline, geographical area and/or option chosen for the main army list can be taken." So that limit is only a date. The list 75 notes say allies taken from the list can be Bedouin tribes. So I guess they don't have to be Bedouin tribes.
Is anyone collecting the revision suggestions? |

As there are no date restrictions against the use of Bedouin tribes in List 75, you can use them in any army between 312BC & 630AD - so you can most certainly use them as an ally to Tigranes (95-55BC).
On the question of additional/missing allies - I understand it that some allies are in some lists, as they were the ally, but not in others, as they were the primary army (as is the case with both the Romans/Byzantines & Sassanids aiding the Armenians in assorted civil wars or succession disputes for example). But that doesn't appear to be the case with either the Aramean or Commagene.
I'm not sure if a record of suggested army list changes are being kept, however there is a separate thread about lists - so putting your suggestions there might give it a better chance of being considered.
Cheers

Thanks Mark. That makes sense about the allies. I'll have a look for the army list thread too.
Cheers for the answers chaps. |
