Attila has written a post "Conseils pour Débutant: La Cv arc impact" in the Tactiques section of the forums. http://www.artdelaguerre.fr/adlg/v3/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4657

For my own convenience and that of others, I have put it through Google translate and recorded the results here.

I intend to write a few sections to advise beginners. Everyone can bring their own criticism or advice. This small article is intended only to give ideas and clues on tactics to use against certain types of troops. This allows beginners to understand some of the possibilities that the rule offers.

Today, let's see the medium / heavy cavalry bow +/- impact.
It is obvious that the bow cavalry endowed in addition to the impact capability is an expensive troop and is very versatile. I pass on the opinions to increase this type of troop would not be it of one point, it will not change anything in their use, their frequency around the table, because this usually only results in a minor modification of the list ( command adjustment, generals included, 1 LI less, etc ...)

Let's see the strengths of this type of troops:
- maneuverability
- dodge
- armor if heavy cavalry
- melee shooting and impact ability

Let's see, the weak points:
- high cost
- reduced army
- vulnerable to archery fire, heavy infantry and knights on contact
- Limited action on a battlefield overloaded with difficult terrain.

The majority of players use the fire capacity of these troops, then finish off their opponent on contact. This is a great classic. How to counter these troops, do you have what it takes? The vast majority of armies have the tools they need on their lists to implement tactics to counter these types of troops.
When composing an army list, you must ask yourself what you will do if you bring in such and such types of troops (elephants, bow cavalry, phalanxes, impetuous…).

Here are some ways to compose bodies, which may deter heavy bow impact riders from coming and tickling your mustache.

Here, the knights are supported by the LI and the LH. This makes it possible to counter the elephants with shooting, or to act as a screen for the knights by taking the shots in their stead. Always put an LI with a general included in a Knights unit. The LH cut the CV dodge at the end of the line. Either you give up your CV, or you fight ...

Cv come to 2 UD to shoot

The LH cut the dodge. The rule says p 38 that if an evading unit has after its reorientation an enemy in its ZOC, it cannot dodge.

Heavy troops are loading, will the player withdraw their troops ?! If he does, he gives up a CV to the Kn

Here, a body of pedestrians with LH and Cv, and LI, same tactics as above.

Here it is 2 CVs that are trapped

Archers can damage CVs from a distance. But if CVs take shots, they can come into contact with archers rather than attempting a shooters duel. This body composition makes it difficult for players to choose Heavy Cavalry Bow:

We mix archers and heavy mounted troops, the archers water the cavalry supported by heavy troops which threaten them.

Mixed troops are the bane of Cv arc impact. If you don't have them, alternate heavy troops with archers to deter CVs from charging you.
They can be conventionally deployed this way too.

The choices of land:
Large, difficult terrain annoys cavalry players to a great extent. Archers in a field are inextricable by Cv (which can only have them on shooting).
The choice of landing a coastal area allows support and protects you from overflow on one side.

If you are defenders, learn not to get bypassed, deploy 4 DU from edge 2 light then 8UD 2 more, and again at 8UD the last 2, with 6 light you cover the whole table.

Don't go faster than the music, the Cv player is trying to stretch you out to make holes. Beware because a "full" mounted army which attacks with 2 bodies and does the soap with the 3rd. But we sometimes use the 3rd corps to redeploy in a breach.

Heavy / medium arc impact CV troops by their high cost very rarely form the majority of an army, they are invaluable to the players who hold them, they will not make the decision on their own, take care of the rest ...

Here is a modest vision of things which I hope will give clues to the beginner.
